We take the time

For over a century, we've made watches with the future in mind. We build them to
last. We power them with light. And we take care in how every one is made,
because better watches should make for a better world.

Made to last.
Made by us.

Built to last is its own kind of sustainability. We make nearly every part of our watches ourselves, from the smallest component to final assembly, so each one is made to be worn for years, not replaced.

We make every minute matter. And every one more sustainable.

For half a century, we've harnessed the power of light, any light, to run our watches.

In 1976, Citizen made the world's first light-powered analog watch. That idea became Eco-Drive, and a more sustainable way to keep time. No battery to replace means no battery in a landfill.

Because when it comes to protecting the planet we all share, even one less battery makes a difference.

Batteries kept out of landfills

Every Eco-Drive watch runs on light, so there's no battery to replace and none to throw away. Stacked end to end, the batteries we've saved would reach the summit of Everest, more than 3,600 times.

Perfecting every second. For over a century and counting.

Pioneering precision

A watch is more than something you wear. It’s an integral part of your life. Every second matters, which is why precision is paramount to our mission. From Eco-Drive to mechanical movements, we relentlessly pursue perfect timekeeping, ensuring every moment is marked with care.

Every part, however small, is CITIZEN-made.

A watch is the result of assembling hundreds of mind-bogglingly small parts. Some finer than a single strand of human hair. Some so tiny they can only be seen with a microscope. Screws, gears, springs, coils, motors. The hairsprings in our mechanical watches. At CITIZEN we make every part of our watches ourselves, no matter how small or complex.

Taking on the
titanium challenge.

CITIZEN watches have always been distinguished by their beautiful cases. That's especially true for our titanium cases. We saw titanium's potential as a material way back in the 1960s and started to use it for cases and bracelets in 1970. Soft, viscous and sticky, titanium is not an easy metal to process. We devoted a lot of effort to developing special in-house processing technologies to overcome its challenges.

Aiming to make watches
people will love. Forever.

For our more complicated watches, we sometimes do maintenance work not in the store, but at the factory where the watch was first made. This is a distinctive feature of CITIZEN's after-sales service, and it's one that delivers excellent results. We want to make watches that people will love for a lifetime. It's a goal that inspires us to keep making better watches as we go forward.

A better future is worth planning for.

Citizen has implemented global programs to demonstrate its ongoing pledge to support greater environmental responsibility. The Citizen Group Environmental Vision 2050 is a blueprint for realizing a sustainable future: By the year 2050, Citizen plans to achieve CO2 zero-emissions substantively from plants and offices, as well as to keep CO2 emission throughout the value chain to levels that make it possible to constrain global warming.

How we grow matters as much as where we’re going.

In 2021, we introduced our Sustainable Management Plan, which commits us to growing as a business while taking responsibility for our impact on people and the planet. That means making products that meet the needs of a changing world, and taking care in how we source materials and make every watch.
